I am fairly dopey when it comes to computers so I click on most stuff!! That Malwarebytes thing was taking too long there last night so i had to cancel it, think I will just turn it on tonight when I get home from work and then leave it on all night hopefully it will get anything that might be left... Might download that avast as well.

It shouldn't take that long, mine takes about an hour, you should look into downloading http://www.ccleaner.com/download
and run the cleaner first but also run the scan for issues under the registry tab..it'll clean up a lot of the junk thats slowing up the Malwarebytes
scan and it won't delete anything you need so you don't need to back it up when it asks.

You should only work with 1 anti-virus program.  AVG or Avast.

Right, which would YOU recommend?? Given that you are my virus mentor.
I've heard plenty of good reports and recommendations for both.
Haven't used AVG myself so can't really comment.
Used Avast as while and haven't had any problems with it.

A bit of a problem with AVG.

The wee red shield is showing on my taskbar and when I go into security center in Control Panel my virus protection isn't found. The thing is my AVG is also running on the taskbar and I was able to download updates and run a system scan. That's never happened before except when it tried to get me to purchase Anti Virus 2009 (that didn't let me download updates and this one hasn't asked me to buy anything yet). I had to do a system restore to kill that bugger. Anyone any ideas what the problem is?

[edited].... tyrone86 I'd say you will need to do a system restore again

Funny enough, a reboot after the updates did the trick, I just think the computer was playing silly buggers

Cheers anyway

Malwarebytes is free.  Did you download the right one?
Maybe try SuperAntiSpyware as well.

Lads i deleted AVAST and downloaded AVG but i'm still getting pop-ups...WTF. I have turned up all my security settings on my laptop but am still getting the f**kers. I turned the setting up that high it won't let me post on the board even though i have the boards address typed in to allow access so i have to turn it down again to post...raging here...

Right.

Get HijackThis, Google it.  Install it, run it and send me the log file.

If still getting pop ups etc after running Malwarebytes and SuperAntiSpyware.
You could run a tool called ComboFix.
It is not recommeneded for basic users.
I have run it on many computers without any trouble and it is fairly straight forward to run.
