Shamrock Shore

Next Sat night in The Madison in Rathmines in Dublin (Sep 20) there is a party to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the release of the band's most commercially successful album, The Man Who Built America.

Musical guests on the night will, no doubt, play some classic Horslips numbers, and, with some coaxing, I am sure some of the attending Horslips will get on stage and belt out some notes.

Admission is free. There will be a raffle on the night for Horslips related items (proceeds to Crumlin childrens hosp), t-shirts on sale, sandwiches and caca milis and lots of music and craic and a chance to meet Shamrock Shore!

There - end of shameless plug.

 ;D
Mirinda was a nice drink, real taste of orange without the fake orange colour.

That Mirinda clip has some history behind it.

Filmed in The Peoples' Park in Dun Laoghaire on Easter Sunday 1972 it lead to Declan Synott walking out cos he felt the band had sold out (after a conversation with a few, eh, fists)

Synott was replaced by a young gossun named Johnny Fean.

Synott, who was married to the Euro MP Kathy Synott, would later hitch up with Mary Black and later with Chrisy Moore.

BTW the 'vocals' on athe ad are not Horslips.

Who was that "Gus Guest" who briefly replaced Synott?
He later guested on TMWBA.
Was he for real?

QuoteWas he annoyed that they stooped so low as to prostitute themselves making a tacky advertisement for Mirinda for a few sullied Irish pounds?

Basically, yes. But, hey, it was the starving 70s. A wedge of cash for doing shag all was hard to turn down.

No - and Yes. Gus Guest briefly was in the band prior to the first album after Synott did a wobbly and did guitar on one single but had long left the scene by 'The Man Who Buillt America'. (there is a wrong history of the band on, I think, iTunes. that has Gus appearing on MWBA). Actually Gus Guest never really left Horslips - they left him. And that, boys and girls, is another story.

My favourite, except it reminds me of SBB.

Wasn't there a reference to Gus Guest on the cover of 'Tracks from the Vaults'?
My hands are stained with thistle milk ...

Shamrock Shore

There was Billy cos he played guitar on 'Moterway Madness' which was on 'Tracks from the Vaults'

A bump on this in case Tyrone or Kerry lads are looking for a bit of craic tonight.
