Excellent post Bud!

Be careful - I hear Ziggy takes any criticism of the Olympics as a personal insult.

Nail on the Head Bud, will you accept a nomination to the Irish Olympic Council, or should we just scrap the aforesaid body. The Money would be better invested in promoting Kerry Football

The best part of it all was that our intrepid soccer player took on the mantle of Usain Bolt in the previous paralympics where he got barred for running too fast.  Maybe when he came back as a footballer he should have grown a beard.   You couldn't make it up.  What scared me more than anything was the fact that the 40yr old mother of three from Cork was thinking of slipping into the running shoes and having a go at the marathon no less.

Like I said, the only hope was in the boxers.  I can see the organizers scouring the horse fairs in preperation for the London Olympics and they would be right, these boys are not one trick ponies if you excuse the pun, they might not win but they will not be knocked down and they can fight into their sixties.

Is this about Tibet Bud? No point shutting the door after the horse has bolted!

Im just hoping for a witty reply really;)

Listen to RTE Radio 1 now, Eammo is interviewing Pat Hickey, President of the Olympic Council of Ireland and he says, he, not me, he says that the Irish aspect of the Olympic games this year was an international disgrace.  He refers to the horse but alleges that the boxing decisions were "hometown decisions".

He is right about the horse and he is right about having concerns for the image Ireland is getting from drugs and cheating.  They would have been better off if they had to kill the horse and have the Chineese serve it up to them as a meal.  Or at least the horse would have been better off and less confused as to why its owners had to bring it on holidays with them.

No, I have no interest in Tibet on this one, I merely state that the selection of who travels and their responsibilities is a matter for all of us.  Eddie Brennan would compete in the hundred meters better than any of them for jaysus sake.  You would not see Brian Dooher giving up and walking off the pitch because he was tired after running a few hundred yards - I think.

Have to agree with Bud's many rants here :) I heard we sent over a sprinter who recently broke the Irish record ,the only problem is the Irish record is something like a 1 second of the World record time . Surely we shouldn't be sending people over just too make up the numbers. If they aren't within 5% of the worlds best why send them?
Anyway, long story short... is a phrase whose origins are complicated and rambling.
