Not being an expert in goalkeeping, would someone explain to me Ronan's Gallaghers Strengths. IMO he is the 2nd worst keeper in Ulster.

How would you rank then - 1 to 9?

A pity that the Railway cup is being shafted. It has a great history and should be still be kept. Play the football final as a curtain raiser to the club final on St Patricks day. Do like wise with the hurling except move it to Easter Sunday. Easy to do and it would bring in the crowds.

agree 100%, the gaa should not let the railway cup die. with comments like those out of nicky brennan last week it might as well be dead

Gallagher has proved himself to be excellent at saving penalties. I know it takes luck and John Doyle's was awful but to my reckoning Fermanagh faced four penalties this year three of which he faced and saved so it's about more than luck. He saved a penalty v Derry at Maghera in the McKenna Cup, Murphy saved one v Wexford in NFL final, Gallagher saved one v Derry Ulster semi-final and v Doyle All-Ireland qualifier so. He certainly is fond of his mouthing but a lot of the time he's barking instructions and keeping players on their toes, this was very evident in the early part of the year at games with small crowds. He could quite clearly be heard throughout shouting at players in his defence. He saved a few crucial shots during the year too so can be said to be an excellent shotstopper. He's also among the best 'keepers at quick accurate kick-outs and was one of the main reasons behind our successful midfield and breaking ball stats this year.
In saying that I don't rate him as the best in Ulster either, but this year he didn't put a foot wrong (mouthing aside).

Where is Pascal Mc Connell?  He played a major part in the final win over kerry.  Mc Greevy has it tough bein the no.1 keeper in antrim with john finucane there never mind one of the best in ulster!

Indeed, and Monaghan have 2 keepers, Duffy and McBennet - which one comes in at number 7 and on what basis are you ranking them? Clean sheets? Penalty saves? Blocks? Kickouts?

Hi,

I believe both Mc Mahons Joe and Justin are attending the trials and doing well....and surely at both 6 3" and over plus both very mobile surely they will make the Compromise rules panel?

Interpro finals set to return overseas

Action from last year's Interpro hurling semi-final between Leinster and Connacht
Tuesday, 20 January 2009 17:24
The GAA Interprovincial hurling and football finals look set to make a return overseas following a meeting of Provincial Council chairmen.

It has been agreed that this year's Interprovincial hurling decider
will take place in Abu Dhabi next March, should a proposal from GAA All-Ireland SHC sponsor Etihad Airways receive the green light from Abu Dhabi tourism.

In previous years the finals were staged late in the year. Leinster,
the reigning hurling champions, beat Munster in the 2008 final.

Comhairle Ardoideachais (CA), who hold responsibility for Gaelic games in third level colleges, had been offered the opportunity by GAA President Nickey Brennan at their Annual Convention last September to play this year's Fitzgibbon Cup hurling decider in Abu Dhabi.

The offer was made after a request by Etihad Airways to play a
high-profile hurling game in the Middle East was turned down. The
airline were particularly eager that a senior inter-county
championship tie be staged in Abu Dhabi.

Meanwhile, a proposal to stage the Interpro football final in London on St. Patrick's weekend has fallen through because of National Football League fixtures also taking place that same weekend.

The GAA's Central Competitions Control Committee (CCCC) will consider an alternative date for this game shortly.

Now how THE F*** would they make a proposal for this when EVERYONE in the whole of Gaeldom knows the league is played then?

Does this mean the 2008 competitions will be held in 2009?

laoisgaa

No the 2008 competitions were held last October/November!!!

The Railways Cup competitions have been on a life support system for the past 25 years. It's time to recognise the reality and turn the machine off.

If all the people who talked about what great competitions they are had gone to the games the competitions may have been sustainable.
