Are we facing a mass exodus or just scaremongering?

See on the Irish indo today about thousands of families ready to move abroad. Does anyone know people making the move?

Are things any better abroad?  I can see if it is to Europe but surely the credit crunch is now global?

That leaves the up and coming nations.  China?  Don't think so.  India ? Remember the Raj!!

I know a husband and wife heading of to Australia for 1 year. He's a builder and things slowed down so much that he can't really afford to maintain his lifestyle. That is a bit different than before as most people emmigrated as there were zero prospects here. This guy could stay and make a less money but he chose to go. He hopes that things will have picked up again in 12 monhs time. I don't think we'll ever get back to those days in the 70's and 80's.

I have 3 family members out of work in last 2 months, not sure what their plans are but i would hate to see them move abroad. Its rough when a family is divided, my own family is in split far and wide and only now am i realising they are less well off than the gang still at home.
I really hope things pick up again for those that want to stay.

bucking the trend a bit, We are planning on returning in 2-3 years time, the last move, and personally I cant wait.
