Was in my local bookmakers there at lunch time. He has Tyrone as favourites for the AI this year, at 5/2, slightly ahead of Kerry second in the betting at 11/4? ??? ??? ???

Genuinely puzzled by these odds, I would have had Kerry favourites and Cork second?

I don't mean to be cruel but anybody with a rudementry knowledge of Gaelic football knows that Kerry are at a massive crossroads, may be even be a few years before they transfrom there team.

Tyrone (10/3) are third favourites behind Kerry (5/2) and Cork (11/4) with Ladbrokes.

Is it safe to comment Tony or will you go running to the moderators again?  :'(

I'd Love to come to a cross roads after confirming a decade of dominance in Senior football, as well as a minor AI Semi.

Cork fresh off an U21 All Ireland and performances of the championship up untill a physical final, will be growing and improving.

Tyrone showed their first 3 AI titles in the last decade, a number of superb minor teams and players.

Theres not much to choose between these 3, although a plus 3/1 price gives you an opportunity to back your fancy, before league and provincials slash odds, then maybe lay off in the semi?
Quite pleased that smart money on down for ulster at 16's is now paying off, 10/1 now, if they go 8's before Donegal laying off would be a good option.

Also the thread title is misleading, what good bet are you refering to?

Both Tyrone and particularly Kerry are not the powers they once were but they have still got a winning mentality come the latter end of the championship. For me Cork would be favourites at the moment since they are only one of the 3 with short term scope or improvement.

Down are still available at 14/1 for Ulster and would represent a good outside bet, however they have a tough draw.

If Kerry are at a crossroads (with the comely maidens jiving) then Tyrone (having lost their last three games in both league and championship) are at Spaghetti junction. It is nonsensical to have them as favourites ofr the All Ireland, in my opinion, and far from throwing my money away I wouldn't put a pound on Tyrone, Kerry or Cork at those odds.

well done, you answered your own question.a good bet?like you just said,no!

Tony, I've got a good insider's tip for you. Put your house on London for the All-Ireland.

Don't tell anyone I told you ;)

you have to remember the silly money which make bookies their money.

If a true market was given, and Kerry were 5/1. All the pub punters who watch championship will lump on them, and being the good team they are, will probably slug through the championship, then turn it on later stages and leave the bookie with a problem, whereas the 'form teams' will befavourites and then people wont back them because 5/2 isn't value on a team at a stage which still has 32 teams.

Its a vicious circle.

Obviously no one is hammering Cork, or any of the 5/1-10/1 teams, which is why they aren't favourites.

And how often to bookies get it wrong.

Why did anyone respond in this thread? Some clown goes into a bookies and doesn't agree with prices! Hardly worthy of a thread!
That was never a square ball!!
