Apparently Lidl are selling helmets & hurls this week. Hurling gear turns up in the strangest places these days.

Would love to walk out of their shop on the Shore Road with a pile & running into the Mount Vernon mob !

Wonder would Billy Hutchinson be interested in gathering a team & entering the Antrim leagues?

Have any of you see Sambo's new hurling ball?

It's got a star as the logo.

All he needs to do now is add a crescent moon to the logo and hey presto he's got the pakistani flag.

Feck sake, next thing is we'll get suicide bombers at GAA matches.

It'll certainly keep the Bhuttos away from games next season.

All of the main hurling sliotars are made in Pakistan, in Sialkot city in the Punjab region to be precise. Cheap labour and leather, and years of expertise from stitching cricket and other leather sportsballs, otherwise sliotars would be about €20 each if made at home.

the way the down county board go on you would think thats what they are paying for them anyway ;D

All Star Hurling at Lidl Prices
27 February 2008

Discount Supermarket Lidl, is launching a range of hurling equipment, inspired and approved by former GAA All Star and Cork Hurler, Brian Corcoran. Due to hit stores across Ireland on Monday, 3rd March, the fantastic range will contain everything the budding Hurler (and Camogie Player!) needs - from gloves and helmets to sliotars and hurleys.

The wide range of equipment, which is endorsed by the twice 'Hurler of the Year,' is qualified to all GAA recommended standards of safety, performance and durability. The equipment will be available to buy in all Lidl stores with prices starting from just Eu6.99 for a top-notch leather sliotar, Eu13.99 for a wide range of hurleys and Eu49.99 for hurling helmets.

Great for individual hurlers and clubs alike, the equipment is perfect for both amateur and professional players and is available in a wide range of sizes, which are suitable for both adults and children - showing that great quality equipment can be available to all, without a hefty price tag. But hurry, as stock is limited!

Commenting on his support for the Hurling range, Brian said: "I am proud to endorse Lidl's hurling equipment, which I highly recommend. It is suitable for all age groups and abilities. The range offers GAA clubs, parents and players the opportunity to purchase good quality products at affordable prices. The PRO-GUARD helmet aims to reduce the cost of protecting players without sacrificing their safety and the PRO-SLIOTAR leather match sliotar is made to a high standard with a price tag that is way under its competitors. The equipment is great for training on the pitch or road and is ideal for taking every day abuse. Lidl is providing the sport's loving public with excellent value for money."

For details of the full range of equipment available, please log onto Lidl's website at www.lidl.ie.

i know a club who were looking into bulk buying sliotars from pakistan for their teams

€3.50 a ball (adult), with club logo printed on them. as good as any other ball on the market. in fact the same balls made for mainstream 'irish' companies

why not bypass the middle men. save the club a fortune. get a local business to order them in through the books
