I remember hearing there was a Polish lad who played for Laois back in the end of the 1940's probably after the war. Maybe the Laois lads can fill in the details.
The captain of the Laois team in the 1949 All Ireland Senior Hurling Final was Paddy Rustchitzko, who was Polish.  In 1946 a lad named Steiglitz, who was a Czech played corner forward for Tipperary in the Minor Hurling Final against Dublin.   I expect that many young players of Eastern European families will be playing Football or Hurling at County level.  If the players mentioned above could do it in the 1940's, there is no reason why many more won't do it in the 21st century.
