A moth usually flies by moonlight, using maths to adjust its trajectory acordingly. When the moons rays of light hit the earth, they are damned near parallel, and the moths brain evolved over thousands of years fly from one parallel to the next, with ever slight adjustments along the way.

However, when homo sapien invented the light bulb, the rays of light of which are divergent, and the adjustments made by the moth still assume the rays are parallel. Lo and behold, the moths new trajectory takes it into the light bulb.

If you could listen to a moth you would hear:-
Ouch, burny, d'oh!
Ouch, burny, d'oh!

Ouch, burny, d'oh!
etc etc etc
