Our club is putting up a hurling wall and 'all weather' area. However, as a means to cut down on the cost the all weather surface will be very fine chippings compacted and it'll do the job at a reasonable price. I have seen a ball alley in Wexford that has same chippings and it works fine. But has anyone here an all weather surface? And if so what did they use and how much did it cost? Would there be anyone getting rid of all stuff i.e upgrading and might throw away the old surface or is that just being tight?

Take your points is probably the best person to ask about this, i know that they have a great one.

TYP, what are maintenance costs like and what is the approx life span of the pitch?

Thanks TYP; I was under the impression that after a number of years the whole surface had to be lifted and replaced but this would not seem to be the case.

TYP,

I cast an eye over the wall anytime im in that end of the town and the pitch has held up remarkably well bearing in mind the amount of "traffic" it gets. It was one of the first of its kind to be layed and hasnt let anyone down. The penalty spot can be tricky even sown in, I have seen a few where it has ended up 200/300 mm of centre and had to be cut out and replaced in its correct position.

There have been a few advances with the technology since the brothers pitch was layed but imo the rubber based is the best suited for gaelic football. The same contractor has laid a pitch out along the through pass for Omagh High School, although it is a different spec to suit mostly hockey. You could do a lot worse than go back to them again for the replacement.
