We used to joke about eating 'Nairac Burgers' and cocktail sausages being his toes.

Its obvious that he was probably killed but I'm just wondering that without a body, presumably without any witnesses of his death, and without murder weapons etc., would it ever be possible for anyone to be convicted of killing him? I mean is there any legally solid evidence that he is even dead?

This is about a stupid SAS man being killed by the IRA. You need to apply the political importance and effect before you can decide on a conviction. It might be better to not convict and just arrest this guy anytime the PSNI are getting a rough ride from Republicans.

I can't remember it clearly but whenever they ran that BBC documentary about it all last summer they were cornering boys suspected of being involved and one fella admitted having something to do with the killing, and said he regretted it and felt very guilty about being involved, something to that effect.  Think this guy wasn't a provo or anything but was there when Nairac was abducted and shot.

He's not dead, he is riding around the Cooley mountains on the back of Shergar, chasing Lord Lucan!

Talk about a political stunt of the higest order.  It wouldn't correspond with the public handover from the great Liberal Ian Paisley to the more hardline dogmatic, Peter the Punt, or am I just being cynical :-\

QuoteHe was tortured, beaten and shot in the head. Throughout his abduction and torture Cpt Nairac never revealed his true identity.

According to Major Clive Fairweather — a seasoned SAS officer in Northern Ireland at the time Nairac was here — who was interviewed by journalist John Parker for his book Death of a Hero, Cpt Nairac fought back and made several attempts to escape.

"He fought very hard for his life .... He had gone through an enormous amount of punishment but his wits were still there and he was still speaking in an Irish accent and sticking to his cover story, his own established cover story," he said.

::)

QuoteIn over 30 years, no-one has ever said how he died or what was done with his body.

I'd say it was probably the shot to head that done it.  Christ, is this what pases as journalism?

It's the same with the Charlie Armstrong case - what his family speculated on what had happened has become gospel over the  years.
Which one of you bitches wants to dance?

Main Street

Undercover in Drumintree  ::)  how many hours did his cover last?

The evidence points to the 'SAS thicker than Micks' story.

Instead we were given a dedicated Nairac, the brave soldier who died a hero.
An account about as accurate as a treatise on the last thoughts of (Sharky) Sefton.
