Quote from: Milltown Row2 on August 20, 2025, 10:42:31 PMIf you can get €85,000 for not getting a job because the interviewer said enjoy having your baby then Jarlath's fucked!

That's not the full story at all - she'd been working in the school, was more experienced than the other candidate and those doing the interview had nothing at all to back up why they gave the job to the other candidate.

Because she did a better interview? The girl may have experience but was probably not great at the job? Why do interviews in the first place sure? Do new teachers not get jobs?

Loads of factors to take on board, sounds to me it was sour grapes at not getting it and the enjoy your baby was a nice in. Who knows but yeah its a minefield now with the woke generation.

No more patting the bums of the female employees anymore !  8)

Woke has f**k all to do with it. The interviewer, who knew her, made sure the rest of the panel knew something they had no right to know.

You've never sat in interviews before?

Let me tell you how it works.

They read the CV they look at her experience work done

They chat, hell if they are interested and vested board of governors they'll probably know her.

They will do the same for all the candidates, it's about doing your 'homework'

At the end of the interview they pick the best candidate based on what they've seen and heard.

Most teachers in Ireland are women who funny enough have children, that's the deal. So it's not been a problem when employing women.

Maybe, just maybe, they seen enough of her during the 2 years that maybe didn't come up to the standards. Who knows but the claim culture is prevalent and easy to get a few bucks..

I have actually.

And I know what lines you can't cross. It's not actually complicated. Don't ask about their religion, sexual orientation, who they vote for, how many kids they have and so on. And definitely don't put on record that you happen to know they are finishing their maternity leave.

The size of the award would indicate she was more than qualified for the role. Anything above a years salary is the WRC saying they were very wrong. Not just procedurally wrong. Plain wrong.

A settlement doesn't have to be linked to any financial loss. Loss of reputation is the key driver.

That is winnable from a GAA perspective though.

That's a stretch. If people don't overstep their remit and the remit of the initiative, it should be fine.

Grassroots GAA members are being encouraged to step up and confront issues within their communities but they aren't necessarily trained to handle sensitive allegations. That can create confusion, overreach or in RGs case reputational damage if mishandled, Jarlath as President overstepped

If someone is "challenged" under the ethos of Game Changer, is there a transparent process to appeal or clear their name? Right now it seems ad hoc leaving scope for inconsistency and bias, basically trial by perception
