We've finally got something to top the Mayo Mayo Mayo chant.

;D

they're at that for years .

Very real Prospect for a leinster final for offaly now and they looked hugely better than they have for years but Longford may have been distracted . and Westmeath have become a Championship team they should be Beatable  as would Kildare though a bit tougher
But I wonder do they really want to go all they was and face Dublin in Croke park?
its a scary prospect for most counties at the min

That Uibh-Fhaile chant has been doing the rounds for years. When we had good crowds, and Offaly were going well, it was a great auld chant. It sounded like a bunch of Zulus (no not that one!) coming over a hill and about to swarm down on a British outpost.

Great win for Offaly yesterday. We needed that. I know Longford's preparations haven't been ideal, but Offaly have badly needed a win in Leinster, and Pat Flanagan has needed to put this 'league manager' label to bed. Mullingar will be dog tough, Offaly know that. Westmeath will be delighted it's Offaly, I'm sure.

A bit of momentum is great, and Offaly can build on it. And the last time we beat Longford in the Championship was 1997. Went on to beat Westmeath after a replay the next round, and ended up beating Meath in a Leinster final. It's on!

Don't remind me (or Billy who has a personal interest that day) of that game. I think the result Offaly 5-13 Longford 0-09

Were you there AZ? Did you miss the stale sandwiches?

Who was the grey haired fellow in the 1980s Offaly jersey that looked jarred going up and down the sideline on the stand side. Maybe the poor lad was a bit soft.

He could have came on and we still would have struggled.

I wasn't there SS. Had family and Development Squad commitments below in Cork. It was the Radio for me I'm afraid.

He's firmly a terrace behind the goals man.

We're entitled to enjoy this one.

Offaly's attacking was as smart as I've seen it in years. There were very few turnovers, bad decisions or poor shots. Ok, so Longford didn't manage to bank up their defence, but Offaly were able to keep the ball moving around quickly.
We've come a long from when our only attacking plan was the long ball at Niall McNamee.

The winning of it was the 8 point burst before the break. Where it could have been lost was two crucial periods where Longford had the upper hand and didn't make hay.
In the first half where Offaly couldn't get out of their half for a long spell off Offaly kickouts, but crucially Longford only came out of it with a 2 point lead. Having ballooned a few wides from frees and play.

In the 2nd half Longford had a good point waved wide and missed a penalty immediately after. A 4 point yield, could have brought Offaly back within range and who knows how the psychology of both teams would have been changed.

It was a pleasure to drink in the win afterwards. Even better to watch the Sunday Game and have two young and fresh thinking pundits give a bit of decent analysis. You get bored of the negative punditry from others about how Offaly and Longford belong in B championships.

"Uibh Fhaili" has been the top chant for a couple of decades.
And still no sign of a challenger.

I don't know about that on the annoying stakes "Laois" "Laois" "Laois"  has to be right up there...

No - he was there behind the goals in the usual spot. No, this was a different chap.

I think he may have been celebrating the win a wee bit earlier in the day. He was harmless for sure.
