I can only please one person per day. Today is not your day. Tomorrow doesn't look good either

I had seen that before, and yes, it is brilliant. Fair play to the teammates, the coach and the student body there.

The Bearded One

It is what it is. Presumably.

As threads go, this is an uncomfortable read. Partly due to the OP, but mostly due to the lynch mob who have fallen in behind.

Fair play to Keyser Soze for pointing out that there might actually be two sides to this story.

I mean no distress to the OP, but in my experience very few parents have even a semblance of objectivity when their children are playing sport.

If it was an uncomfortable read try living it.

This is slightly more then having a semblance of objectivity about a child ability on a pitch - I'm no tiger mum I have minimum interest in sport but my kids do so I've had to woman up and get involved.  Up until now I've never interfered with the older guys playing/sideline routine either in athletics, soccer, swimming or GAA.  He thankfully is more then capable of taking the knocks and sucking up his game time/benchtime.  I support by being there and helping the club when needs be.  I don't roar and scream or berate the referee or coach.  I try and instill in him that he has to respect officials, fellow team mates and opposition and wouldn't tolerate any other behaviour.

We sat pretty quietly through alot of the upset younger guy had last year.  We were going to withdraw him quietly but he asked to join and I tried to approach the coach to see was there something we could do to make it work which lead to me receiving a pretty negative attitude back about him and his issues which I will rightly say upset me.  My fight or flight mode kicked in and we flew without the fight.  I think my point has honed in on there is a fab national policy of inclusion of kids with special needs but the grass roots experience is patchy especially at an age when it is technically not competitive and about participation.

When we joined swimming each child filled out a form.  The question was asked about special needs.  Afterwards coach approached me and asked for diagnosis and tips.  Swimming works well even though there is massive sensory issues and he is doing really well and more importantly enjoying it.  I think this highlights that if there is a desire to make it work within a club it will work.   I just wanted my son to have the joy of playing a sport he loved and having the team experience.  I am not expecting him to get 100% time just his own share and I can understand how anyone would struggle with ds.  Is this so very very wrong.  As the mother of my special little man I am his primary advocate, without me or his dad being in his corner who else can he count on.  He is a lucky little man, he comes from a loving home and has great support network.  Overall this is just one of lifes little blips and he will continue to thrive and hopefully achieve 100% of his potential for happiness in life.

If this remains an uncomfortable read it says more about the reader then me.

Molly.....you need to define the battlefield.  Right now you are fighting this battle on other peoples terms.

Get yourself up to Croke Park on St Paddys Day for the club finals and spend the day with that guy I told you about and his son.

Your sons passion and love for GAA can manifest itself in many ways, not just on the football pitch.

Itchy

If just like to point out to some people that there are not always two sides to a story and to me this seems like one of those times.

....was wondering if there were published guidelines on this, but google yielded the answer pretty quickly.

there's a kid on our squad - U11, that displays many symptoms, but we've never been approached by the parents, and it's not easy to be the one to reach out....will have a look at this and digest it for training.

i had questioned whether there was a whole lot of benefit in him persisting, given he's so far off the pace, but he scored a goal last year in a game, and the reaction afterwards gave me my answer!

thanks for the post OP

If it isn't (or sometimes even if it is) there will be something on the internet proving it isn't legit.
