OK, then why WOULD you punt-to-self?

hi again, I'm the Yankee newb who asked if punting to self "reset" the hand count in a previous thread.  The general consensus seems to be no, punting to self does not reset the hand count, you still only get 2 carries per possession.
But that begs the question then, what the heck is the guy doing at 4:06 of this video?

(Could it be that he is punting to self in-between his two allowed hand carries? Like, instead of balancing it on his hurl, he popped it off his foot, kind of like a Gaelic football run?  That's my current theory.  It's not like I could pull it off in a game anyway, but I'd just like to understand!)
Thanks!

Did the lad in the video - Peter Kelly? - get away with it? I wouldn't have thought that would count as a 'reset'. It seems like such an obvious attempt to get around the rule. As AZ noted, the whole bouncing-it-off-the-ground business is not strictly permitted but has become so embedded that it is considered acceptable. Soloing the ball football-style? Not so much.

I'd say that 'toe to hand' was one of Kelly's two possessions, so if he attempted that as a reset, then its a free to the opposition.

This is legal. The ball is in play and therefore reset once it touches ground

Tony Kelly's is, Pete Kellys isn't a reset, so its one of the two plays he's allowed!

Should have been clearer on what Kelly I was talking about.

The only time ive ever soloed a ball was when my stick and arm where being held around my back preventing me from using the stick. No free was forthcoming for that one so it was either solo it or get blew up for overcarrying.
