Monaghan players also got a standing ovation from their fans, as they walked off the pitch, after losing by 4 points in Kerry a few years ago.

I suppose it could have something to with, 'still standing at the final whistle'. At the 1930 AI final against Kerry, legend has it there were only 2 Monaghan players left standing at the final whistle.
