Is anyone else sick to the back teeth of this whole debate about people coming out in the GAA?

Who cares? this is old news, the next thing we will have guys coming out to say that they are heterosexual.

It is starting to smack of self promotion more so than sharing their story at this point.

You are going to love the build up to the referendum then.  :D

I dont care if a bucko is straight or gay, once hes prepared to go in "hard" for the tackle  :o

blanketattack

I wouldn't care if a teammate was homosexual, however if he was lumbersexual now that's a different story  >:(

I know a lad who was shown on Donal Og's programme, marching in a Gay Pride parade. He had mixed feelings about it. He's out but his parents come from a very rural area and their neighbours wouldn't have been aware.  They probably are now. Pretty irresponsible of the film makers.

On the whole though, I think programs like this must be helpful for showing youngsters who are coming to the realisation that they are gay or bi, that it's nothing to be ashamed of or worried about.

I know a few people from home who were known to be not straight but didn't have a "gay" identity.
Also I dunno if a lot of sportspeople would fancy being so open about it given the potential for the crowd to react.

Ireland has come a long way but there are still lots of people who would be mortified if their child was gay, never mind it being broadcast on national television. And when you're talking about elderly people living in small, rural communities I'd say the vast majority of them would be.

Can't seem to find the clip, but there's a great scene in Family Guy in the episode where Meg tries being lesbian for the day.

Meg: "Mom. Dad. I've got something to tell you. I ... am a lesbian."
Peter: "..... That. Is. Awesooomme!"

All this 'coming out' craic - I think someone has got it spot in- it's a media thing for some, or a bit ott over dramatic for others.
Maybe it's cathartic , but is it necessary?

I rem a great midfielder from the midlands- a railway cup stalwart with Leinster- was well known to prefer men to girls. Asked a lad I know if he thought about switching sides because he was ' a good looking boy' but wasn't pushy ( despite how bad that sounds).
Ended up moving to live and work in London.

Fairly well known that a former Donegal all Ireland winner from 1992 was not heterosexual.
No one gave a fcuk!

What's all this publicity about?

Some want to court publicity and make it seem they are put upon and have a hard time.

For a lot it seems to be a fecking attention seeking thing.
Dunno about the rest of you but I don't care what any other fellas sexual pref is. As long as it's not me.
Years ago I'd not care either - more women for me to chase!!
