That tackle that took him out in the NZ lions tour still annoys me as these guys like to talk tough but the cowardly way he was done in that match proved they were scared of what he could do to them.

He dis-respected the haka and got dropped for it, end of.

was he not sold a dummy over that, something to do with picking up a fern and throwing over your shoulder - over the left means you accept the challenge, over the right means you dont - or vice versa.

In Blackpool they still talk of Canavan though.

Rugby is far from my preferred sport but I admire everything about BOD. Courage, passion, skilll. work-rate, leadership. The man is an absolute legend.

He is one of the reasons I watch Rugby and makes me proud to be Irish
That would be my sentiments. I watch a lot of rugby and I've never understood why the mediocre has been celebrated so much at rugby when we can't beat any of the top sides in the world.

Ireland have beaten every side in the world in recent years apart from the All-Blacks. Nearly all of them a few times.

But on subject yes Brian O'Driscoll will go down as a true legend of not only Irish sport but of the entire sport of rugby. I was reading last week that the great Tim Horan himself considered BOD as the greatest centre of the modern era ahead of himself and Sella, Mortlock, etc.

What??

Sella and to a lesser extent Horan can justifiably be compared with O'Driscoll , being , as they were just about in his league but Mortlock????

I presume that he was having a bit of a laugh. ??? ???

O'Driscoll has consistently  been the best back in the world over the last 10 years.

Raises an interesting question which I'm sure had done the rounds before. Undoubtedly an incredible phenomenon, but is he the best Irish sportsman of all time? Certainly up there, but along with Eamonn Coughlan, Sean Kelly, Siobhan O'Sullivan, Kevin Moran, Roy Keane etc
In more modern times, yes.
But all time? firstly, O'Driscoll would have to be the best Irish rugby player of all time, not just the best player in 35 years. Do rugby aficionados with a longer memory for witness not rate Mike Gibson with equal or even greater merit?
From what I remember, for a skinny guy, Gibson had a superb tackling technique as well as many other attributes which rated him world class right up to the age of 36.

Mortlock is a phenomenal player.

Even if true, is that in any way an acceptable excuse to risk breaking a man's neck on a sports field?

Favorite story about O'Driscoll was about his pen pic where he was asked favorite sportman.

Everyone else were the usual suspects e.g. Pele, Maradona etc.
