all messing aside.., without revealing too much. how'd you meet up or were you on holidays or working or studying there.. just interested, sounds like a romantic story.. valentines etc..

No great story to tell there lawnseed. I work in China and she was a friend of a  friend. She's an amazing girl though.

Thanks again for the sound advice lads. I emailed the embassy this morning so hopefully they'll have some positive information for me.

Contact the Department of Foreign Affairs (no pun intended). Ask them if they will accept an apostille of your marriage certificate from China.

If the answer is no, then ask what is required.

If the answer is yes, you will have to get one, then you are laughing.

I'm married and living in Asia. My wife is Asian and we don't have any kids yet. I'm looking for some Visa advice. It might seem strange to be asking on here but I think it's as good a place as any and it's a genuine request. I think from what I've been reading on this website

http://www.movetoireland.com/movepag/papnoneuspouse.htm

that if myself and my wife go to Ireland on a visitor/holiday Visa and get married while in Ireland, then my wife immediately has the right to reside in Ireland and it's a  matter of going to a Garda station to register the marriage, then to the appropriate office n Dublin to get the residency permit. I could phone my local embassy with this question but you can understand that I'm reluctant to phone them about my wife moving to Ireland and then send off an application for a holiday visa. I plan on working obviously, and my wife would like to work too if the conditions of her residency permit allow, but the most important thing is that we'd like to move home.

I don't understand - Why would you need to get married again?

Can your wife not accompany you home and be an automatic legal resident because she's married to you?

Hey thanks a lot Mick and muppet. I thought this thread had disappeared and just spotted it again. Some very useful information here which I hadn't found on the embassy website. Really, really grateful lads, cheers.

Get on the embassy guest list and try to get invited to the St Patricks day party.
I went to it in Cairo once and it was fabliss. Some fascinating Irish people came along. There was a Gaeilgeoir from an Rinn who was married to an Egyptian with a big estate down south that had been seized by Nasser and a nun who was in Beirut when the Israelis invaded. And the catering was excellent.

Ya know seafoid, I do think if they met us and saw we are genuine, and especially if they got to chat to my wife who everyone loves for her daftness and kindness, that they would do their best to help us with the application. I've no idea how I'd go about getting an invite to something like that. Would it be just a case of asking to be invited?

Ask to be registered with them anyway and then ask if they have an SPD party ...
