My heart says New York to take Connacht, but my head says Mayo.

Some New York blood in you Benny? shocks do happen but it's hard to see past the three in a row..

Not that I know of. I just like to see the underdog do well.

Doesn't Galway have home advantage v Mayo? Yet only one person tipped them.

Rossfan

They have to play 2 more games after that  ;)
In Connacht home advantage doesn't matter that much - Mayo bet Galway in the windy tunnel in 09.
And sure when was the last time we bet anyone from Connacht bar Laythrum in the Hyde ( in Championship)?? 2001?

It doesn't seem too. Galway beat Ross this year in the u21 final in the Hyde.

How come finals aren't played in Neutral grounds in Connacht?

Just because Roscommon can't win at home, don't mean the rest of them can't  ;)

But I don't think Mayo has beaten Galway too many times away, in the last 30-odd years, if I'm not mistaken.

I wouldn't say that now. Roscommon have a dreadul record in Castlebar and not much better in Salthill. Mayo have a poor record in Salthill and went 46 years until 1997 without winning in Tuam. Home advantage certainly counts for something but won't win you a match by itself.

We had a great record over the years in Tuam till ye hoors closed it down - as good as anyway- and started dragging us to the seaside.
There was a time we used to have Castlebar as our favourite ground - we had good teams then of course.
Laythrum haven't bet us in Carrick since the Boer war and Sligo have a better record in the Hyde against us than in Markievicz.

Rodney, All Connacht Championship games incl Finals are played on a home/Away basis except when Sligo or Layths get to a Final. They are played on neutral grounds because their little parkeens aren't able for the crowds.

Thats true we had decent record in Tuam (even our minors won in Tuam last June) then Galway decided to move back to Salthill, 20 years ago we also had decent record in McHale park. We haven't lost in Carrick on Shannon but they have beaten us a few times in Hyde park.

Yes apart from a few wins over Leitrim we have beaten anyone. Home defeats to Galway 2002,2006,2012 Mayo 2005,2011 Sligo 2007. Apart from the Sligo game we were under dogs & weren't really expected to win the other games.

Connacht people are too friendly to each other. Need to be a biteen meaner at the gate and in the stands methinks.
