Anyone know anything about this?

Our Objectives
1.To become a national, citizen-led and politician-free citizen advocacy group campaigning to overhaul Ireland's oil and gas licensing terms, returning control of our natural resources to the people of Ireland so that all can benefit from these resources.

2. To maximise the benefit to the people of Ireland of their natural resource endowment by adopting best practices globally, across all the required competences from environment through to sovereign participation with private industry at the optimum level to bring about new industry infrastructure, onshore job creation and security of supply.

I like the politician-free notion.

I believe so, even though I didn't see him on Saturday night. This quite simply MUST be done and is long oversdue. Seems to me they're going about it the right way.

But what can they actually do to accomplish their aims?
How can the DCNER be forced to renegotiate terms?
Would attempts to enforce quotas of Irish workers be against EU employment law?

This type of nonsense just does my head in! And loads just willing to jump on the bandwagon. Eddie Hobbs is supposed to be intelligent, so he either hasnt thought this through or he's just looking for publicity. The website is full of half-truths and designed for people to draw incorrect conclusions.

If Ireland is such a potential goldmine for oil companies why did so few companies apply in 2011 when a huge chunk of our Atlantic seabed was offered up?? We got applications for just 6% of the area offered up, and no big company applied. Why?
ANS - because we are very unattractive!

Comparing our 25% tax rate to Norway's 75% rate is the height of stupidity. Norway has years and years of history of successful exploraton drills, plus they give cash refunds/grants to companies who look for oil and fail to find it. We, on the other hand, have a drilling success rate of 5%!

There may well be fantastic opportunities in our seas, but the only way we'll find out is if we make it attractive for oil companies to come here and look for it! Then we can build our new oil industry around it.
When we do get a track record of success, then we can up the tax accordingly.

Anyone who has any interest in this area should read this before making up their mind as to the rights and wrongs of Eddie's plan:

eddies got an agenda as usual. like the rest of these fiancial gurues 'when the buck is put to the brae' the wheels fall off.  as for oil licences charlie haugheys government were giving them away in exchange for foreign holidays and to their friends and familys. the oil industry here should be like canada where the oil belongs to the country but you get paid for pumping it

Quote'when the buck is put to the brae'

The sort of homely, farmyard comment that kept FF in power for years and ridiculed anyone with an understanding of economics.

6% sounds like a small area, until you look at it. Giving it away for nothing is idiotic, better wait till a generation of Irish better than ours comes along.

That's the first mistake Hound - assuming a level of intelligence to Mr Cape Verde himself. Another spoofer with a chequered track record in the "investment" arena

Agreed Declan - Ah yes - 'Brindin Invistments'.

A pal of mine was mistaken for Hobbs in a Dubbellin taxi recently. As he was getting out the taxi driver sez to him "Jazes, you're some baullix, ya know tha!". My pal was astonished and when the confusion was cleared the driver apologised profusely and waived the fare.
