Any reason why its not on TG4 or Setanta? Sounds like a close game up to this point anyway, another missed oppertunity to promote the game...

Presume there'll be a big crowd tomorrow night to say goodbye to Heffo.

More encouraged by the Kildare display tonight. Plenty of young cubs grabbing their chance with both hands which was fantastic to see. Paddy Brophy and Niall Kelly picked off some nice scores and Daniel Flynn put in a great shift. Johnny Byrne didn't look out of place when he was introduced either. Of the more established names both Ollie Lyons and Peter Kelly had good games in the backs. It was encouraging to see Tom Connor getting the vital scores because finishing has been his achilles heal in the past. Hopefully it will give his confidence a boost because he's well capable of kicking scores. If the injection of youth into our forward line can help freshen things up then we might be capable of a decent year. Our backline is fairly solid and midfield should improve when Daryl Flynn and Leper return.

No point in getting carried away with pre season matches against experimental teams on heavy pitches in January but hopefully tonight will stand to us against the All Ireland champions next weekend.
There's Seán Brady going in, what dya think Seán?

Enjoyable game on a very heavy pitch. Kildare had enough chances in last 10 mins of normal time to win it but a very young and inexperienced Dublin team just held on and started ET very well before a very strange goal gave Kildare the momentum to go on and win it. Considering we had 6/7 u21s on pitch at the end thought we did well. Costello looks the real deal although he ws only on for the last 15. Pity we couldn't win it after yesterday's sad news and noticeable that none of the Vincents lads were there. Anyway great value for a wet night in January

Exciting game, great to get five games ahead of the league and to be able to blood so many new players. Think we'll see more than a few new faces during the league and hopefully 2/3 into the championship team.

Well done Kildare on nipping it in extra time, very strong team out - it was clear Jim Gavin didn't care about the result by his selections and was more interested in new fellas getting game time than leaving experienced championship players on the pitch as McGeeney did.

The Hill is Blue

A win's a win and a cup is a cup no matter when it's won. Well done Kildare.

To be honest I'd be a bit worried about us long-term. We used twice as many championship starters from last year than Dublin (I checked) and the game was nip and tuck. Now, of course Dublin are going to have more strength in depth, but still, I would have hoped a reasonably experienced Kildare team should be able to beat an experimental Dublin team more convincingly. Maybe I shouldn't worry that much - it's a challenge game with a bit of a crowd - but I still feel we're likely to fall short if we meet them in a Leinster semi this year.

Having said that, we really need to stay in Division One so I think Geezer struck a good balance in his selection: experience for Byrne, Kelly, Brophy and a few others and game time for some of the established lads to hopefully give us some sort of head start before we play Donegal in a game where I think we need a win to boost our chances of avoiding relegation.

I don't think the margin should overly concern you - good experience for the younger lads you blooded to come through a tight game like that.

Ah yeah. Nice to win. Not turning my nose up at it. It's just, Dublin have the players from two All-Ireland U21 winning teams to add to an older core that has already won Sam. I think we'd need to be in superb form to beat ye in the championship. A one-point win after extra-time in January when only MacAuley, Brogan, Bastick and McManamon of the established Dubs are starting, well, it doesn't really count. That's not playing the poor mouth: it's the truth, unfortunately.

I see where you're coming from and I wouldn't think anyone in Kildare would be getting carried away with the win, but winning a tight game like that will give you good confidence going into the weekend - maybe O'Connor won't have things so much his own way when Cluxton and O'Carroll replace Supple & Brady but it doesn't mask our problems at midfield.

Plus, while Gavin clearly wasn't concerned (or overly so) about the result, it was clear the Dublin players certainly wanted to win.

Priority for Kildare imo has to be staying in Div 1 and coming up with a system to beat Dublin should they both make it to the Leinster semi as I think Dublin might have a better team come July than the last few years (midfield problems not-withstanding).
