What a load of bollocks. We've f**king no chance, or at least, we deserve to have no chance. Worst transport system in the world, yes, the world. All these facilities everyones talking about, a lot of them are a field with stepped concrete round them, stadia is a bit erroneous. Lets get real. This is even without counting the amount of investment which would be required, a figure which would make even Ireland in the boom years balk.

It also should be pointed out that if you actually read mcwilliams comment hes incredulous himself, the comment was obv in response to a q rather than his own pov.

I think you're confusing the needs of a RWC with the soccer version.

New Zealand just hosted the tournament and of their 12 stadia, a handful were also little more than concrete encased fields. As it should be too; a match like Namibia vs Georgia will never get a 5-figure crowd, and is better served by terracing for cheap tickets.

Between Croke, Lansdowne, the new Casement and Semple, the bigger matches will all be catered for.

As for your comments on transport, well there's lies, damn lies, and mad up off the top of your head nonsense.

It may have been hyperbolic in my angry morning mood  :). Its not good however, and would be an absolute nightmare trying to follow a team round. Facilities would have to come on a hell of a lot.

Why? It takes 2.5 hours from Dublin to any of the prospective venues.
Ireland has a lot of hotels and they aren't so busy in October.
If at first you don't succeed, then goto Plan B

Agreed with all of that. The place Ireland played their matches during the French RWC was not too many steps above Dr. Cullen Park.

Indeed, and isn't there rail links to most of the potential locations? Dublin / Cork / Belfast / Limerick / Killarney... no problem. Nowhere is more than a few hours away.
