at the kildare louth match yesterday there were two instances where hogarty and raindow did sliding tackles without any punishment.
hogartys especially was definitely a yellow card.

also at our last two clubs games the ref has allowed lads to lead into tackles ith the boot plus a keano style lunge went unpunished.

What's the story and is this a common thing elsewhere?

up to the discretion of the ref.
Fully agree with you that these are 'fouls' and can be construed in some cases as yellow cards.

Have to laugh that you mention this, I take it you never saw the great Phelim play for JTB ?

another novel approach to refereeing by mr colderick yesterday. down forward carries the ball into a couple of armagh defenders, who tackle him hard. down man holds on manfully to the ball for over ten seconds as the defenders tackle and harry away. after some time, colderick blows the whistle. now there can be only two verdicts. overcarrying or a foul on the ball carrier. whats balderick's decision? hop ball. if in doubt....

I've noticed a lot of this so far, especially when players are going down to pick up a ball. What is the story with that rule? Does the person going down trying to pick up the ball not get priority, lot of people getting kicked in the hands and arms doing it lately and getting nothing for it

behind the wire

have to agree with you there uladh, the amount of times he hopped the ball was a joke. some of the crowd actually laughed near the end when he did it again. dont think he was the man for the job, didnt stamp any authority on the game at all, hence the needle in the game. i could say alot more but i dont like criticising referees, im sure the man did his best.

here something i would like to hear an opinion on:
danny hughes was playing corner forward yesterday but everytime he tried to make a run for the ball morriarity was holding his jersey. it went on all day straight in front of the umpire. hughes continually appealed to the umpire but the umpire would do nothing. yet had hughes used his elbow or arm to break free no doubt the umpire would have drew attention to it. as a player its very frustrating. what was he supposed to do?

cant comment on that ref but the other thing is pissin me off a lot.

we are though that if a man is going down on the ball not to touch him, especially kicking him.

the other effort of lads lying on the ball is even more grey. if a lad goes down and gets knocked over with three players on top of him he gets done for travelling or head down.

another instance he could get a free for a third man tackle, it is a rule that needs to looked at seriously.

personally i feel if a lad lay on the ball its a free but if he is trying to get up with two men on top of him it has to be free to him. as far as i know thats the way the rulebook interrprets it but refs seem to change their minds from instance to instance.

2 options - either do him for jumping at an opponent or blocking / attempting to block with the boot.

The televised Cork Mayo match satursay night.......

Conor Mortimer has the ball to the right of the small box. He is tackled and goes to ground, he is then surrounded by 4 Cork backs all using hands to block his evey move. One defender on the referee side ( I think Ml Prout) has his knees into him takes them out and in they go again. Referee gives a free out for for holding on.

What is the rule regarding....."he is then surrounded by 4 Cork backs all using hands to block his evey move" ?

The one that gets me is, can you lift a ball rolling towards you off the ground
without the toe under it or can you not?
One ref will call it all day long then next day out, every man is
at it and no call ??? A little bit of consistency on this one would be nice.
