Tyrone       16/1
Mayo              20/1
Galway      25/1
Meath      33/1

Personally I would have Roscommon slightly higher up, cannot understand how Galway are more favourable than Meath and so close to Mayo.
Time to take a more chill-pill approach to life.

I think there is probably a sense from the bookies that Alan Mulholland will be in charge of Galway next year and there are some very good young players coming through that he has coached all the way through the age grades so they obviously expect Galway to be better next year (rightly or wrongly). In fairness it would be hard for them to be worse than this year. Personally I think it will take him a few years to have us competing near the top again but who knows? A couple of counties that had new coaches this year did very well when they were previously a shambles so it is possible to turn things around fairly quickly sometimes if everyone is pulling in the same direction.

Galway are higher up than Meath, Down, Derry or Armagh because of the limited size of the Connacht championship.
If at first you don't succeed, then goto Plan B

Which is irrelevant as far as the all Ireland is concerned.

Those are All-Ireland odds. Not to mention if Galway reached the Connacht final this year they would have played 3 games in Connacht. If Armagh reached the Ulster final yes they would have played 3 games in Ulster.

Not sure I'd have Galway ahead of Derry and Down but its obvious those odds are calculated with Mulholland being 2012 manager. They will definitely be better than this season and with some of the talented underage players if they got a run going in the league they're capable of beating Ross and Mayo. Once out of Connacht they also could improve like Mayo did this year.

We know that but in Ulster we bate 7 lumps of shite out of each other in each game and it has left a lot of our teams drained come qualifier time. Its widely regarded as the most competitive and hardest province to come out of.

Not any more.
Sure Donegal walked it this year while the 09 and 10 Ulster champions fell far short of the National benchmark.
You're living in the past buckeen.
As for batin shite out of each other ... leave that to the Laois boys.  ;D

Aye sure if I had a euro for every time I've heard that I'd be capable of bailing out the Irish economy by myself. Either way it doesn't have much if any bearing on All-Ireland odds.

armaghniac

QuoteIf Armagh reached the Ulster final yes they would have played 3 games in Ulster.

it depends on who you play in those rounds. Games against Down, Derry and Donegal would be all Div 1 teams in the top third of the betting. Of Galway's potential opposition, only Mayo is in the top third of the betting.

When the Ulster championship draw takes place, if Armagh find themselves playing Cavan and then the winner of Fermanagh and Antrim then these odds will fall, although their chances of beating the better teams won't have changed.

QuoteEither way it doesn't have much if any bearing on All-Ireland odds.

Yes, it does have a bearing, the number of rounds you have to play and the quality of opposition in those rounds determines the betting.

There ain't so much quality opposition in ulster any more though.

Even with Donegal getting to where they've got to I think Tyrone are realistically the only team in ulster with the clientel to make any kind of challenge on the AI and I think they'd be a bit away too.

I just couldn't see Donegal winning Sam with that style of play.

Kildare, Dublin, Kerry, Cork only teams who'll get their hands on sam next year IMO.

johnpower

I think the championship is alot more open than people think. Given that Kerry only lost 3 games this year (all by 1 point in injury time) league and championship teams need to take the league seriously. No doubt teams can have injuries (Cork ) and some bad luck (Kildare and Wexford) but alot of teams can begin with hope at least
