FIANNA FÁIL DISCUSSED the possibility of changing its name and its logo at a meeting of TDs, Senators and MEPs yesterday.

The Irish Times reports that the parliamentary party undertook its first detailed postmortem of its general election massacre in a day-long meeting where there was a frank exchange of views. It was acknowledged, according to one insider, that the party "failed to communicate the depth of the economic crisis to the people."
Suggestions for changes included returning to its working-class roots amid concern about Sinn Féin gaining strength in some of the party's key constituencies. The possibility of fielding a candidate for the presidency was also discussed, it is reported, but there was no consensus reached.

A number of other proposals were discussed including one to change the names of influential party members who were also members of the previous Cabinet. However a source said it was resolved to adjourn any such decisions until a future date. The Irish Times understands proposed name changes included changing the names of Micheál Martin to Mikey Martinez , Wille O'Dea to Hamilton Dean and Mary Hannafin to Toby.  A Fianna Fáil spokesperson declined to comment.

I've passed on my suggestions to Mount Street - No response as yet ;)

The People Partied - well we all did didn't we???
Mé Fein - cos that's the core value
SLAT (Strokers , Liars and Thieves) - The party who only look after themselves
My Favourite though is the UPFOP - (u pay for our pensions)

Spot on there Declan. I just hope they disband altogether for all our sakes. They fcuked up this country beyond all recoginition and now Cowen, Ahern, Harney, Hannafin, Dempsey etc etc are all lying up on fat pensions that this country cannot afford.  >:(

I like modest change, for one letter we can have fine bail. Add 3 for the simple but effective fine failure. Another I considered was the refreshing fine c***ts.

I think FF Sake would be a wonderful name.
They could be sponsored by a Japanese alcohol company.

Lads it'll be something like Fianna Fáil Nua and they'll promote a few young guns from around the cummans to get the grassroots energised. That'll be it.

Unfortunately, it looks like Fine Gael are going to tie themselves in such knots that FF Nua might well be part of the next government if they play it right.
