You beat me to it Eamonn. The hospital argument comes from the Joe Duffy school of economics. Its logical conclusion is that nothing should ever be spent on anything but hospitals (but only until people stop dying, of course).

Speaking of the same Joe Duffy he did an interesting show earlier on in the week on RTE re public art around Dublin - Some good stuff has been done in that area

Indeed. Remember the £20 milion the GAA received from National Lottery funds for Croke Park? It was notionally spent on so many projects that it was like the loaves and fishes
