How come you never had to pay it? I got exempt from the income levy from April past (as did all nordies) something to do with them bringing in free prescriptions for everyone in the north, got 8 months income levy back just before christmas which was a nice wee lift.

As far as I know everyone has to pay the USC, 3 marginal rates:

The rates of Universal Social Charge are:

2% on the first €10,036
4% on the next €5,980
7% on the balance.

So will be steep enough

No I don't think there is any way out of it, i read somewhere that people from Northern Ireland will have to pay regardless of whether they have an NI medical card or not.

lawnseed

i think nordies are in the same category as medical card holders might be able to avoid this tax after all ;)

Yeah seen they made a change to the finance bill today, so medical card holders only pay a max of 4%, great news.

lawnseed

yep! and the euro is holding up 86p today on the radio so that means about 84p in real life. i buy the diesel in the south thats as much tax as i want give them

Nice.

I was paying €32 a month more under the old system.

First paycheck was in October and had emergency tax, as did the November one while I got my PPS and tax credits sorted. Then got it all back and paid no tax in December (they scandalously give you a full years credits regardless of when you begin work) so have no idea how my PAYE has changed.

according to a table of contributions in the 'star' folk earning 45000 will only have to pay 7 euro more than folk getting paid 25000 this is one for the cupboard with bertie and those voting machines >:(

That's probably because they are already paying a lot of tax and running the country while the latter have been paying f*** all.
