Was watching that Freefall program , anyone else roar "Kunt" at the TV when Seanie Fitzpatrick's smug face was flashed up, maybe its just me but how that man is not now in Portlaoise Prision I will never know.

Lenihan was at a Fianna Fail golf event in Kilkenny as the head of the European Central bank was trying urgently to contact him a few days before he signed off on the big guarantee , a big smirky head on him announcing that he only got the voicemail message the following day.

tis little wonder we're fecked in this country.
I think it was a racecourse - Gowran presumably, but I thought exactly the same - too hammered to talk to Trichet presumably - ffs.

Good programme on the credit crisis on RTE1 now. It's Lehmans fault lads.
Heheh, nothing to do with the billions that Anglo flung at the Irish property bubble!  ;)

He was in Gowran Park.

The final decision on the Guarantee wasn't made by Lenihan. He wanted to nationalise Anglo while the Chairman and CXs of the big two banks wanted either nationalisation or to let it go to the wall. Cowen wouldn't nationalise it though, claiming legal reasons (I suspect Fianna Fail reasons) and went with the McWilliams/Dermot Desmond blanket guarantee idea which the Greens were also proposing.
