Its set pre-Danelaw in Britain (also parts set in Ireland). They warp history beyond recognition. While it is true around the time of the story (over that general 300-400 years mid-dark ages) there where Irish colonies/kingdoms in Western Scotland, Isle of Man & South Coast of Wales and a failed takeover of Anglesey, there was also Irish slavers. The story warps Ireland from a disunited group of Kingdoms, Tribes and Clans into a Unified Kingdom which attacks all of Britain, it has the Evil Imperalist  ::) style Irish attacking the Jutes lands (which on the map is where Northumbria is, but in real life the Jutes where nowhere near that they where in Kent and the Isle of Wight and surrounding area of the IofW. On the British side they are trying to come to a treaty to stop the Evil Irish to united the Celts (Britons), Saxons, Angles, Jutes and Picts (huh! so it seems according to their history the picts where ruled once be Rome!!!). They aslo forget the fact that it was the Saxons who ethnicly cleansed the Jutes from teh Isle of Wight region not the Irish. They may have also done the same to the Britons (the Celts in this film). They give the impression not alone for the Uniting of England but of all of Britian being the result of the Irish attack on Britain rather than the Uniting of England minus much of Wales and Cornwall (and even Devon) abnd Cubmbria but plus much of Lalland Scotland was a result of infighting among Angle and Saxon tribes and the hatred that both dofferent racial/cultural groups hat to each other. It also forget the greater reason was to overthrow the Norse and Danelaw lands which came much later than this film. From what I can see of history in reality the Jutes and Angles where not so bad, but the Saxons where right b**tards. This film also ignores that much of the Irish expansion into Cumbric and Pictsh land even later (and these Irish where British based) was under the dual influence of spreading Christianitiy and various brief alliances with the Angles of Northumbria.

This film was an Orange-Conservative Party wet-dream.  >:(
