Lads,

Looking for some help here, some comments etc ...

Hoping to organize a day or 2 day long GAA Performance Seminar in September over a weekend for approx 20 - 30 coaches.

It would be aimed at the level of Intercounty Coaches, potential Intercounty Coaches or Senior Club coaches

I've got a top coach in mind, but as he's a professional and is busy, before I go arranging it with him I need to see if there'd be interest in it, and what kind of figures people would pay for world-class information?

I'm looking at covering things like ...
- Strength and Power for GAA
- Speed training for GAA
- Planning and Structuring a Season
- Nutrition and Supplementation
etc
And how they are done at a professional level and how they can be applied to GAA.

Was thinking of holding it in Mid/South Monaghan, some weekend from late August to Mid September.

The reason for that is I figure the furthest people will travel is 1.5 hours so a 1.5 hour radius from Monaghan would take in most of Dublin, Meath, Tyrone, Armagh, Cavan, Louth, South Derry and Monaghan of course. (Serious coaches would probably travel further anyway)

If anyone is interested I like them to post ...
1. - What topics/areas they're most interested in
2. - Where (location) is best suited to them (even though I'm thinking Monaghan)
3. - Where they're from (in case there was an interest in running it twice)
4. - How much they'd prepared to pay, or what they think is reasonable

Any other questions just pm me

There is some interest in running this in Dublin for ease of travel, so if there are enough I will consider that also.

Sounds interesting.
I'm sure you'd get a fair few takers but supose it would depend on who and how 'high class' your speaker is.
Just a thought - but would it perhaps be a Mr Connolly from the Monaghan area??
He appears to have featured quite a bit in some of your previous posts.
Hope you're getting well paid for his promotion!!

Interesting first post? Promotion? No, not him!

I've got two actually agreed now, one definite and another 99% certain.
I wish I was getting well paid, but the more at look at the costs I don't see this being a profitable venture ... !

One interested party suggested the following topics ...

1 Strength training for football - what to assess, how to progress, bilateral v unilateral exercises, role of olympic lifting and its derivatives, role of strength training in improving agility, speed, jump height.

2. How to structure a proper warm up and cool down, apparently most teams don't do this correctly.

3. Practicalities of individualising a training program in a GAA setting.

4. Conditioning for football - can it be done with a ball, if so can you be confident you can monitor and develop it without the use of heart rate monitors.

6. How to structure and monitor your gym and field training sessions simultaneously, can you continue to do both and if not.

What about passing/shooting off your weaker foot?

I would say the problem with a lot of Intercounty Coaches, potential Intercounty Coaches or Senior Club coaches etc. is that they feel they probably know everything already, and think they shouldn't have to attend such an event!

i was thinking that myself, not a jot about kicking a ball with some degree of accuracy, seems strange

Sounds more like a fitness seminar than a coaching seminar.

Less athletis .....more ball playing    I say

I think a fitness seminar is exactly what's needed. Improving your weaker side boils down to practising it but many coaches, even at the higher levels, would struggle to put together a proper well structured conditioning programme. There are many aspects of team preparation and I think it is a good idea to isolate these for education purposes. If you feel you know how to condition a team then you don't need to go or if you want to work on football skills you go to a different seminar that is focused on that type of thing.
