Yes indeed, the considered reflections of a sensible commentator  have no tabloid recrimination appeal
as apposed to a pointless meaningless rant from a struggling manager.

I can see this turning into a Keane V McCarthy thread if we are not careful.....sick of that shite to be honest.

On a separate note...a sensible commentator is a bit of a push for McCarthy....he didn't even know it was the same Veron who played in the premiership that who's in the Argentina squad in the first game he did analysis on. Shocking stuff.

It's quite obvious from this thread alone that there are those, who because of their hatred for Roy Keane can't bring themselves to open their ears and actually listen to what he was commenting on in this case.

Some are mature enough to separate the two and deal with his comments on their own.

Far from being a pointless meaningless rant, he hit the nail squarely on the head....particularly his comments on the players no being good enough....yet every section of the media disregards the fact that johnson, upson, barry, carragher, gerard, rooney (since coming back from injury), heskey, crouch etc have at the very best been average this season. The manager should receive critisism for bringing several of that panel out with him.

wobbler does make some valid points.....I'd agree that Keane doesn't have ALL the right qualities to be a manager (good managers need to be good liars...Keane is not)...doesn't mean his views aren't relevant though in fact it makes them more relevant to those who want the truth. i think Engerland are under so much pressure to even win meaningless friendlies that it gives the manager less scope to try out peripheral players such as Dawson, Jagielka, Scott Parker, Bent and the likes so he's les likely to take a punt on them when the need arises ala the selections of Carragher and Heskey who both have had shite seasons.

Because people like me think Roy Keane offers nothing to the analysis except irony, then I must hate him.
What a nonsense.
The pertinent point is not about the ridiculous expectation that England were good enough to win the WC. It is about a team not performing to realistic expectation of the player resources available to the manager and the manager's ability to get the best out those resources. Roy Keane did not offer the slightest bit of wisdom on that matter other than his hobby horse of player's egos. Realistically, Capello (for GBP6m p/a) should have been able to win his group and get through to the last 8 where they get beaten but with a little more bite than Portugal offered.
Brian Kerr could have selected a squad of English players and play a game good enough to do that.

I think you've made a good point there.

I couldn't care less if you love or loathe Roy Keane but I'm a damned sight more interested in hearing his opinions on it as a former top player and struggling manager than some random internet warrior who thinks he knows better than him

There is a still the perceived wisdom out there that England should have won the group easily. Why is that? As Keane said if you go through their players how many are any good? Capello went from being a great manager a month ago to being a gobshite. It's long since been proven that it's not the manager that is the English problem it's the lack of decent players

Because Algeria, Slovenia and the USA have even fewer decent players.
