In direct response to Hardy's appeal for more local soccer threads, I thought I'd bring this to your attention.

Having spent many years in the wilderness, Dundalk FC now sit at the peak position once again. Nostalgic for older fans of the Lilywhites like myself who remember the great days under Jim Mc Laughlin with great players like Tommy Mc Conville, Dermot Keely, Richie Blackmore, Hilary Carlyle, Cathal Muckian, Jimmy Dainty, Mick and Martin Lawlor, when league titles were won very year and some big names came to Oriel in European Competition and left without winning, including PSV Eindhoven, Celtic and Spurs.

I saw Bob Paisley in the dug out at Oriel, the Van der Kerkov twins (PSV and Holland), Celtic (with Dalglish and Mc Grain) win 6 nil in a pre season friendly in 1975, Hoddle and Ardiles helping Spurs to a 1 all draw, etc etc....great great memories

Well Tony, at last we have something in common! My whole family on my fathers side are from Louth and when I used to visit the granny back in the 80's my uncle used to take me to Oriel. I saw Dundalk win leagues and doubles back then. Still keep an eye out for their results even though I live over 3 hours from louth. Great to see them doing well again.

Monaghan Utd all the way  :) :) tho i to have also seen the great Bob Paisley in Oriel park when the European cup was  THE competition to win, not the watered down shite that passes for it today, a proper championship, win you go thru, lose out ya go.
I would love to see a MonaghanUtd V Dundalk cup match in Gortakeegan this year as we can't face them in the league.

An afair with an ex Ryanair hostess? No doubt he had to book their illicit liaisons online, pay top dollar if he had to cancel any dates, and she probably tried to sell him cheap cures and scratchcards during every shag ;D
