Hi,

in the middle of building my house and wondered if anyone here knows about sound systems, I have asked a few local sound stores but they just want to sell me speakers etc and know nothing about wiring etc, basically 3 rooms connected to a central hub for tv,dvd and music so i have low level speakers and just a control pad and tv on the wall.Any help is appreciated.

I wired my house myself a few years back for a home system. Just use ordinary 3 core flex 0.75mm. It is a perfectly good conductor for what you need, its cheap and the third core is handy if one of the other 2 cores get damaged during construction. Just simply run the flex from your main hub to all the places you want speakers or audio controls. Most dealers wnat to sell you speaker cables for a mad price and its just the same as flex. Get the electricican to do it, then fit the speakers after. As i said earlier it works fine.

I'd go a bit higher,  1.5 mm for a long cable journey.  I have even used a lot of this 2.5mm 3 core flex,

and use the 3rd core as an earth at one end, will prevent any induced emf and interference from affecting the sound quality. Ho Ho Hums.
You can get it blessed by Sonus the Greek Goddess of Sound and in a flash it will be be worth 3 times its value.

My brother got a system like this in a few years ago.  It was a company from Dungannon put it in.  It sounds grand but for the cost Ive been using this for a while and find the sound quality easily as good.
