NIfan, that was just a wind up. I have attended many protestant funerals,(and indeed  the wedding of my nephew) in protestant churches.

In any event I'm not a public representative. Its seems to me that the Robinsons have missed out big time here. Not only could they have attended the funeral mass but Iris could aslo have gone to confession as well ;D

poliitcial parties generally send envoys/representatives to such events - its the done thing out of courtesy and respect - so that daft point on why a politicial party should send anyone is dafter than anything Tony could ever draft.
Good man - Tony needs some help!

But to the point itself, I just find it a bit hollow when politicians are lined up at the front of a church for such high-profile funerals (unless it's for one of their own or they knew the person). Just because it's "the done thing" doesn't make it 'the right thing'.

I also can't understand why Tony would want a DUP representative at the funeral if what they really think is that: "at best, the Church in question is non christian and at worst, that the deceased's ultimate church superior is the anti christ"
I think it can sometimes be more respectful and courteous to stay away.

It is the holding of such crass and degenerate beliefs that has this part of Ireland in the mess it is in and has been since 1921, and has spawned the treatment of catholics like vermin by some who share these daft beliefs.

I would have preferred Foster and Wilson to stay away altogether and there attendance was designed to deflect media flack and was not in any way an acto of courtesy or respect for the deceased.

I totally and utterly reject the beliefs of all protestant sects yet it does not prevent me from attending services such as funerals or weddings in protestant churches. You dont have to believe in what they preach or adhere to
