LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Comedy series "Scrubs" is inching closer to a ninth season, with most of the main cast members locked in to return.

The show would return to ABC, where it began airing in January, after seven seasons on NBC.

Star Zach Braff has closed a deal to come back for six episodes to transition the show to its new setup, which is still being worked out.

ABC and creator Bill Lawrence have said that they envision the show continuing with a mix of original cast members and some of the interns introduced this past season.

Also signed for six episodes is Sarah Chalke.

Donald Faison, John C. McGinley and Neil Flynn all have closed deals to continue as regulars, but they are also involved in pilots for potential new series, which would take priority. Faison and Flynn have roles in ABC's pilots "The Law" and "The Middle," respectively. McGinley is on CBS' drama pilot "Back."

Judy Reyes, who plays head nurse Carla Espinosa, has not been approached for a deal but may appear as a guest star if "Scrubs" is renewed.

It is still not clear if "Scrubs" would continue as a single-camera comedy or switch to a multi-camera format or a hybrid of the two forms.
