QuoteMightn't be just as cheap as Sainsburys but considering you'll be in Cross in less than an hour from Dublin and don't see any traffic between Dublin and Crossmaglen it'd be worth it in my view.

And they have kindly signposted Cross' from the motorway for anyone wanting to go there.

Would Cross be the best way to get to Belfast to avoid the Newry snarl-ups (not that it isn't a worthy destination in and of itself  ;))?

What would the handiest way to get the Marshes on Sunday coming from Belfast, given that the town itself will be nuts?

Or should we just head off early and hit the pub?

There is a school of thought that says you should come off the motorway at the Carrickdale and head up the old road, rejoining the motorway at the head of any queue. Still have to negotiate the bypass, but Cross seems a long way out of the way. Many travelling from Cross to Belfast would head for Newry.

Depending on how much you hate sitting in traffic, you could head to Cross and onto Armagh City and go via Portadown. I always go to Belfast via Armagh from Castleblayney.

Or I could go via Newtownhamiton out of Dundalk BB, then Armagh and Belfast (from Dublin)?

Could idea, you travelling from south of Dundalk. You'll not meet any traffic that way once you don't go withing 10miles of newry!!

Simple answer Sam is that there is no handy way to get to the Marshes from Belfast especially at that time. You'll have to go through the town no matter what. I could give you directions to take you around the outskirts and down a back road to the Marshes but you'd probably end up getting lost and miss the start. (PM me if you want them though and I'll send you something)

As you said yourself aim to be in Newry for 12 and go for few scoops in McCoys. You'll still get caught coming out though......

Yep ya could do that. Fastest way from Newtownhamilton to Portadown is by Markethill though.

Think we saved ourselves a good half hour if not more by going the old road past the Carickdale today.

The other option is to head to Meigh from the Carrickdale, then Camlough and join the road to Belfast just before fiveways (think there's also a short cut from Bessbrook to take you onto the A1 but I don't know it). Fair few miles out of the way but probably quicker at the worst of the traffic.
