Whats the best free picture editting software?

Paint is shite.

I used to have Photoshop - is there anything decent free with Windows 7?

I use Macromedia Fireworks which I find very useful.... Not sure how much it is coz I got it for free!!

The Gimp is excellent and free, has most of the features of Photoshop
