Is it possible to convert a PDF file to a JPG, without downloading one of those programs off the internet?

Im not sure but there might be an option in Photoshop to save it as a PDF. Thats if you have photoshop.

Shamrock Shore

Adobe writer will convert which I have.

Zig - what sort of pictures do you need converted and what size are they?

WeeDonns

screen shot, put in into paint, save as a .jpg.

But you'd be better doing it with photoshop for quality

Yep photoshop does it handy, can even extract the seperate images from a pdf.

If ya want fire it to me and will convert for you if only 1.
Other than that you can download some of the online converters.

Maybe look for a print to JPG driver, then just print from Acrobat.
This is one, I haven't used it
http://sourceforge.net/projects/imageprinter/

but this does involve downloading a program off the net!

perhaps there is something on the Windows printer drivers...
If at first you don't succeed, then goto Plan B

Maybe your best bet would be to use a free online service to do this for you.
Zamzar.com is one such site. I just gave it a try for the craic and it did what I was looking for without a bother.
There's a four step process involved and its fairly straightforward.
You browse for and select your file for upload.
Then you select the format you want the upload converted to.
Next you enter your email address so a download link can be emailed to you when the conversion is complete..
Lastly, you click to begin the conversion.
It may take a little while for the email with the download link to arrive. (A matter of 10-20 seconds usually.)
Each page will be converted to a single jpg image for individual downloading or you can download the lot in a single zipped file.

If its a one pager open up the page full screen and hit shift and print screen on your keyboard. Go into a graphics package and do a paste and your screen shot will be there. You can then normally crop out the bits you don't want and save as a jpeg.

None of that worked unfortunately.

Ended up printing it in colour and scanning it back onto the computer as a JPG.

On a slightly different note, is it possible to take the contents of a pdf and put them into a word document, including the heading and footer and an image on the pdf? Or can I type on top of a pdf, basically I want to add some text to a reference that I don't feel does me justice from an aul b!tch.

Not really.  If you had Adobe Acrobat it would be easier to edit the pdf.  You can edit a pdf online using http://www.pdfescape.com/
