Is there anyone out there who is involved with a club that amalgamates with a neighbouring parish at minor board level but retains a seperate senior club. I am just wondering how it works out in practice. My own club really struggle at underage level with numbers both players and adult mentors. I think an amalgamation at minor board level might be in the best interests of all.

That happened at underage all the way up in Ardagh/Moygownagh in North Mayo. Their underage was known as Ardmoy. This year, their seniors have amalgamated under Ardmoy but have two separate clubs as far as I'm aware.

I used to play on a 'parish' minor side - there was a senior and intermediate team in the parish.
Now that I think of it, I was playing for my own clubs junior team before I played minor !

An amalgamation is the way to go, but the 'politics' of this really can kill the ambition of the side.
Selectors wanting 'their' lads on the starting XV.
Its a hard job.

It works very well in Contae An DĂșin.
Both Dromara (small club) and Liatroim Fontenoys (larger club)   are neighbours and enter a combined team called St. Marys in Minor, U16 and U14 competions in Down.
You should be able to contact them via  their websites here

Its fairly common throughout the country I would have thought. Only happened once with our club that I can remember though we'd be reasonably strong. Some clubs in Armagh would always be joined for underage competitions.
As I dream about movies they won't make of me when I'm dead
