Leonard Cohan is a master of the sad song. This is his version of a country classic.

Vincent by Don McLean. There's more to him than a million murdered versions of American Pie.

The Band Played Waltzing Matilda must be the saddest song ever written though.

I always remember his answer when he was asked what that song meant (American Pie) - he replied " It means I never have to work again."

You wouldnt need to be in a delicate frame of mind around this place recently.

What between Leenie, Tyronegirl and their musings on life and love and now fecking sad songs.

Which reminds me, where the hell as Pints gone?

The fact that Eva Cassidy is now dead (RIP) makes most of her stuff sad.

Ill never forget my mother (full of wine) bawling a whole christmas day listening to fields of gold on repeat.

That was when we had  her committed.

Doogie - I am an island. :D

That little bit of leg rubbing he does there is quite disturbing.

Eric Claptons "Tears of heaven" - never liked this song and won't ever.

But last Saturday it was the saddest song I've ever heard.

A friend, who I play five-a-side, and his wife (sister of another firend) had their first baby last week. However, during birth the baby was born brian dead and passed away last Thursday. Wake and funeral was most heartbreaking thing I've ever seen and don;t want to see again. Couldn't sleep Friday night after coming home from wake.

That song was played as Tony carried the coffin down from alter. Not a dry eye in the church. Terrible experience.

RIP Dylan.
