I know I may be abit biased here but I cant believe your thoughts on Martin O'Connell. He was a super player. You can also say what you like but he didnt get on that team selection for no reason. I cant really be bothered to reason with you to be honest, Im outstanded....

Astounded?
Answer me this Meathie-Who would you rate more important to Meaths success in the late 80s-Mick Lyons,Colm O Rourke or Martin O Connell?

I may be a bit biased too being from Cavan-but I recognise outstanding footballers and leaders and it is impossible to ignore some of the Meath greats, however I just cant see how Martin O Connell is recognised above them.Obviously they had to pick a Meath player considering what they have won, that IMO is why Martin got chosen.Correct me if Im wrong, was Martin Newell on the Centenary team?
I just think they could have chosen more wisely.

I dont the question relates at all to who was more important to our success, thats not what the competition is about. Lyons, O Rourke and O Connell were all outstanding in their different positions. You're entitled to your opinion but I dont think there are many who would agree with it. Maybe you should have a look at some of his games again. He was one of the best half backs Ive ever seen and his ability to read a game, to read a ball was incredible. Newell was outstanding but I think as versatile or good a reader as O'Connell

Pretty handy in the full back line too if I recall. Well worth his place.
