I think this is one of the biggest matches Cavan have played in a couple of years (and every other match after this in the league will be bigger regardless of the result)
Currently the table stands like this

Div 3    P    W    D    L    Dif    Pts
R'common    3    2    0    1    10    4
Down    3    2    0    1    5    4
Tipperary    3    2    0    1    -3    4
Longford    3    1    1    1    1    3
Offaly    3    1    1    1    -8    3
Louth    3    1    0    2    9    2
Cavan    3    1    0    2    -3    2
Limerick    3    1    0    2    -9    2

It is unbelievably tight at the minute and concievably every team has a chance to go up and no one is really safe from relegation either.  If Cavan were to beat Limerick on Saturday and managed to improve their points difference (at east break even), they would be back in the running big time for promotion.

But while Limerick have been poor - whatever the excuse about Tipp catching Cavan on the hop, Limerick have no such excuse, they would have been warned - this isn't a certainity at all.  If Cavan played to their full potential a la the performance against Down, they "should" beat Limerick, however if they were to lose, we would almost have one foot in Div 4, especially if Louth win.

So it's all to play for really.

On the topic of Cavan's team, I really think Keating and Givney have to start.  The inclusion of Givney wouldn't cause that big of a problem, it'd be a straight swap for Mulvey who has had loads of chances at this level and never seem to really take it but of Lyng is fit, do you drop Lyng at centre forward to play Keating or is there room for both in the forwards??
I think Pierson could come back in for Larry, if he is back from injury but after that I'm not sure.....

What Saturday night against down proved is that the football ability is there for Cavan to compete with any team in the Division. Additionally we now seem to have a few lads who can combine a bit of physical presence with some football ability. the question is which Cavan team turns up next weekend. The lads had absoulutely no choice but to show up big time last Saturday, another defeat and it was welcome to Kilkenny and London next year.

Do they give themselves a pat on the back now and revert to Longford/Tipp form in which case Limerick will roll them, time will tell.

I haven't even the courage to think promotion at this stage. We have gone through some amount of players since our last decent run in the Qualifiers-Rabbitte, Peter Reilly, Finbar Reilly, Forde are gone, McCabe, Larry and Jason are on the way out and no shame in that; Gaynor and McKeever-who knows. So we are in rebuilding mode, there are some promising lads in that will have a few setbacks along the way but we need to stick with them and hope the new broom will at least engender some discipline, self belief etc.

If we perform to the Down level next weekend (a big if), Cavan can take it by 4.

Yer underestimating Limerick a bit there lads IMO, remember this is the same Limerick that should have beaten Cork, did beat Meath and ran Kildare close and now 3 of those two teams are flying. Limerick will be tough but the fact that they will have 4 or 5 lads playing U21 championship on the Friday night might go against them, they'll be up for it though as they have aspirations of promotion and like you say it's still all to play for.

I don't know a lot about Limerick except that they cannot be taken for granted. Given that Cavan have a bit of momentum and confidence I'm going for a 2 pt win for Cavan.

Limerick midfielder John Galvin will miss this Saturday's vital NFL clash with Cavan at Kingspan Breffni Park.

The Croom clubman is set to play in a National League quarter-final for Castleisland basketball club St Mary's Team Garvey's at the exact same time as throw-in is scheduled for the clash between Division Three's bottom two (7.30pm).

The news will come as a blow to Mickey Ned O'Sullivan, who will be hoping that three of his key forwards in Ian Ryan, Ger Collins and Cormac Joyce Power come away from tonight's Under 21 Munster championship meeting with Clare in Coolclare unscathed, so as they will be available for the trip to the Breffni County on Saturday night.

Big ask to play both the U - 21 and Cavan game in 24 hours plus Galvin will be a big loss... Hopefully Cavan can take advantage of this

I see from the RTÉ website that Cavan won by 1 point.  Were any posters at the match?  Any reports?
