I live in Brussels and all the movies in the cinema here are in original language, with French and Flemish subtitles. I went to see Che the other night, not realizing that the original language was Spanish, so I sat with my wife through 2 hours and 15 minutes of a Spanish movie with French and Flemish subtitles. My three weeks of a French course and my 20 year old O-Level Spanish weren't of much use to me. The wife loved it though as she has fluent Spanish. Longest night ever in a cinema. And to make it worse, that was only Che Part 1, there's another installment to come, I think the wife will be going on here own to that.

And Part 2 is a pile of dung even if you do understand the language.

The wife was very disappointed with Part 1. The story of Che is a great concept, but I think they have made a pig's ear of it. I guess I will just have to stick to the Motorcycle Diaries until another one is made, hopefully bette this time.

Ach, I liked the first one but the second is very different even in style. Also difficult to follow if you don't have a fair bit of prior knowledge the Bolivian campaign and why things fecked up. Maybe my impression will improve on the second viewing.

Do you drink in the Coolock?
No, haven't really done the bar scene here at all. Getting a bit too long in the tooth for that and anyway, during my youth bars served two purposes (1) to earn money and (2) to pick women up in and often they served the same purpose at the same time...... i.e. working behind a bar and picking up a customer, not picking up a girl and charging her for sex if you understand... although thinking of it now, the second alternative mightn't have been a bad plan. Anyway, now I'm married and being a tee-totaller, bars are kind of a thing of the past. And yourself?

Was in Brussels once.

Belgium has a reputation of being a nation of bores..... they're f**king nutters!!! Trust me. I'm sure irunthev will back me up on that one.

The interesting thing about Belgium is the divide within the country. The French speakers (southern Belgium) dislike the Flemish (northern Belgium) and the Flemish despise the French speakers. In Brussels you are a little protected from it because it is such a multi-national city, but they like their beer and judging by the university I live quite close to, they can party too.

Is this the Benico del Toro one you're talking about?
