West Athlone was given to Westmeath in 1898

Only partially, it's natural hinterland of Monksland was cut off.  Only yesterday it was confirmed as part of Roscommon.

So even as we type some Lakeland folk continue to struggle under the jackboot of Rossie tyranny.

/Jim.

We will never rest till we get back West Athlone from the Gall.

Easy, move the Shannon to flow through Moate.
If at first you don't succeed, then goto Plan B

This might the place to ask - need some Rossie knowledge. I'm heading to Sligo in a few minutes. Should  I avoid the detour for roadworks between Roscommon and Boyle or is it OK?

If there are roadworks it might be no harm to detour early through Longford for the N4.

Thanks, Billy. Never got to check back. Took the Frenchpark detour anyway and it was no problem, compared to dealing with kamikaze Connacht drivers hurtling lightless through the fog!
