Quoteas i couldn't live on the money from the civil service but i'll tell you what it was one handy number

Well the RoI civil servants got themselves what was called 'benchmarking' which makes them very well paid indeed.  I've also noticed they're very quiet here too.

Dont get me started on a civil service. One particular office which i have frequent liasons with is nothing short of a circus. I never cease to be amazed at the level of laziness. Paid too much as it is  :D

The tax payer has been bank rolling their endemic laziness and sickness for years now.
And now the poor oul taxpayer has to bankroll the effin banks ...... >:(

I didnt know Civil Servants wages were tax free. :o
f**king wasters the lot of them

And what would you know about it. I'm surprised you could even spell that. I think you'd fail the aptitude test.... ;)
There is no I in team, but if you look close enough you can find ME

I agree with Illdecide, I work in the civil service now and it does turn you into something of a lazy git, the flexi can be easily abused and the holidays are a gift, the sooner some sections are privatised the better IMO.

I'm looking to go back to Uni to get outta here as the places frys the head and ruins what little intelligence you have, it isn't the workers fault though, the vast majority do what is asked it is the bosses who have their finger up their arses and couldnt run a childs tea party..

What I do not agree with is that people who work here couldnt work in the private sector (thats horse shit) there are people who work here that are qualified teachers etc.. who cannot get jobs and who are highly motivated but the job here drags you down..

Have to work with them everyday . It's a total joke
Anyway, long story short... is a phrase whose origins are complicated and rambling.

Obviously they're not. But the point still stands that anyone paying taxes is contributing to their wages. And yes, their pay is generally shit - at the lower levels at least, but half of them wouldn't survive a month in the private sector.

You're an uppity cnut Maguire. And no, im not a civil servant.

I didn't say that to tar everyone who works in the CS with one brush. I know there are many hard working people in the CS. And a lot of my comment seems to have been echoed by other posters. I've worked in both the private and public sectors (although not the CS specifically). I'm basing my opinion on knowing both.
And yes, many of them would survive in the private sector (my original post said 'half' - allow me some exaggeration!), and they'd probably be better paid, but they'd soon miss the holidays, flexi time and general culture and conditions of the public sector (coffee breaks?).

As for the taxes - yes Civil Servants do contribute. I don't see the argument here(?) All that was said was that those who worked in the private sector (also) contributed to the wages of those in the CS.

i hear ya longshanks i think those with any kind of ambition and enthusiasm  become crushed/disillusioned by the system thats in place. I really hope the RPA reforms lead to a bit of restructuring. Im convinced that cut backs are needed and the bluffers have their bluff called and likewise those who show initaitive should be rewarded more readily.

Yeah its the same drivel of work each day, mind numbing stuff, to be honest there is no incentive at all to work harder to work your way as its all who you know... I have seen people that know their job inside out but because their not in the 'circle of f*cking trust' or whatever they get over looked!!

A close family member and member of this board has put a cardboard cutout of himself at his desk in the civil service for the past 2 years. They'll notice someday! ;)
