My thoughts are based on McKenna Cup selection and Forbes, Higgins being away from the squad in pre-season. Just think management will be risk averse in the first game and will go with what they have been able to test.
I would have no doubt both have ability to be starters for Derry, Higgins was getting better as the inter-county season went on, maybe a disappointing SFC final but could have been carrying an injury in it. And he is a big man which we need.

I heard Higgins has done ligaments in his knee and will more than likely miss the whole national league campaign
https://youtu.be/306QGc7HIbI?t=5191 I suppose your right, doesn't look great
Is that all we are basing it on. He rubbed the back of his knee?
I'll not write him off just yet,
3 points min from first two games would be ok. Meath and Tyrone along with ourselves are the 3 best in the division I reckon.
I would agree with that the RTE predictions has Cork ahead of Derry which I wouldn't agree on, especially know Meenagh seems to have a bit of depth that wasn't there is the RG years.

If you didn't follow Derry closely and were predicting how they will do this year you'd be looking at last year.
With modest improvement suggesting mid-table div 2 might be the safe prediction.
But as we all know, last year was disaster in terms of injuries, goalkeeper selection, new rules, timing of management being appointed....and I hope will be a bump in the road rather than a new reality.

I honestly feel we are in a much better position than we have been since we won Ulster.
Key players back, a scattering of fresh young talent, a manager who knows the players and who the players obviously wanted.

In saying all that, I think Meath will be a real challenge for us. A big pitch, against a big physical team who are obviously improving and will see the league as a stepping stone for Leinster. The new rules really don't suit our profile of player in terms of kickouts - so we need to either work out a way to get the short kick away, OR try to launch the ball over the top of those big MF players of meath to our HF line. Not sure we have a keeper with that kind of distance, so possession from kickouts will be an issue.

I'm expecting a tight game to be honest and I think potentially our toughest game in the division. I can't call it.
A win for Derry though and we will be in the mix for promotion. If we lose, we probably need to win all our other games as you'd expect Tyrone and Meath to win most of their other games too.

Not a disaster if we don't go up mind - I'd be more interested in getting to an Ulster final.

Entertaining game tonight.
From a Derry squad point of view, a pity about Dan Higgins and Ruari Forbes. Haven't heard anything about Ruari's injury.  Great to see Patrick McGurk back in action. Conall Higgins had 2 points.Charlie Diamond had one two point score.

I think that is all the squad members.

Charlie diamond a lovely kicker. What's he like as an all round player?

He had a very good cship, scored heavily and can win his own ball imo, has the physical size and strenght.  I saw most of the games played in Owenbeg the past championship, he is like a number of fringe players needs a game or two that level to gauge his worth and can he adapt to that level, the problem will be getting that game or two.

Any season ticket holders having issues selecting seats for Saturday. Used to be you could pick from the map for the seats still available?
That option seems to be gone and just take what you get! I've 2 season tickets and need another 3 from general sale and they can't be selected close enough together on Ticketmaster.
