Paisley says he wants to see SF woman 'Tasered' By Rebecca Black
04/11/08

IAN Paisley jnr told a DUP audience at the weekend that he would like to see his fellow Policing Board member Martina Anderson 'Tasered'.

His comments came during a speech about policing and justice to around 700 delegates at the DUP conference.

He called her "a ghastly woman".

"I'm sure there is quite a few people who would like to see Martina Anderson tasered," Mr Paisley said.

Taser guns are an electroshock weapon which discharges 50,000 volts used to subdue targets.

They fire two wires which attach to the target's body and carry an electric shock.

Although they are said to be a non-lethal weapon some 290 deaths in the US and Canada since 2001 have been attributed to the use of Taser guns.

The police were given permission earlier this year to buy 12 Taser guns despite opposition from human rights groups and some members of the policing board.

A taser was used for the first time last August in Derry.

Ms Anderson, a Sinn Fein assembly member for Foyle, has been an outspoken critic of Tasers

She said it was clear that "yet again Mr Paisley has embarrassed his party".

"This is typical of the nonsense we come to expect from Mr Paisley jnr," she said.

"What we can see is how far he and others in the DUP have to travel to treat other elected representatives on the basis of partnership and equality.

"He has used a very sensitive case in Derry to attack myself which reflects on the mentality of the man.

"His speech is the only speech from their party conference which has not been made available on the party website. It is obvious he has embarrassed them again."

Mr Paisley Junior told The Irish News yesterday that the remark was simply a joke and "should be taken in the spirit it was meant."

A spokeswoman for the Policing Board said because the comment was not made in a meeting of the board it would not be taking any action.

However she said if a member had a complaint about another member, there was a code of conduct that can be referred to and a complaint can be made.

Ain't that the truth. I was surprised to see him speaking at the DUP Conference over the weekend. Was the last hooray of the Paisleys, before they are pushed to the sidelines?

Personally I'd like to see all politicians and policing board members tasered before considering deploying them here.

The man really has become a laughing stock, typical of most politicians sadly, with the whole Seymour Sweeny fiasco it was clear he abused his position for personal gain.

You nearly have to laugh at his actions sometimes if they weren't so serious, remember when Queens ditched GSTQ at their graduation ceremonies 10/15 years ago, Junior turned up with a ghetto blaster and played a tape of the anthem full blast, sad but true   ;D

nifan

Doogie, that sort of thing is why people get involved with student politics in Queens.

Always seemed like their simply waiting for the otherside to do something for them to get offended by.

No it isn't. That sounds like an excuse.

Not sure what you mean nifan?  Dropping the anthem was a good move and I know you would agree with that anyway, I was never a fan of the internal politics at Universities.

Zap, I would make no excuses for anyone like Paisley but maybe I am a bit more cynical nowadays, I just see most Politicians in it for themselves.

Yes i agree with dropping the anthem - the graduation is for those who gained a degree at queens. National anthem is an irrelevance at it.

Paisley Jr learned his politics at queens it seems, and hasnt moved on much as that is exactly the sort of thing that went on there.

I reckon many of the DUP would like to see him tasered.

And there are plenty of people who would just like to see him neutered.

If it moves hit it
If it doesnt hit it anyway!!

heganboy

why does rebecca black get to do all the tasering?
Never underestimate the predictability of stupidity
