I was reading in one of the Sunday papers yeterday where there was well over €100k + spent in legal fees in the last few weeks, with clubs and counties taking cases to the DRA.

Who is funding these cases ??

According to the Indo yesterday, the cost will be borne by the GAA.

The person bringing the case will pay if the decision goes against them.  An evening at the DRA can cost between 20 and 30k.

But who is paying ??? And where does the money come from ??

Are we happy with the Tribunals in Dublin Castle getting loads of € ? No

Will the DRA go the same way ?

I have been told of a very simple case of an appeal against a decision which took a few hours on one evening and the bill was 30k euro.  Apparently it was never collected from the losing party.

How can this be ?

Re: Paul Galvin

The DRA Tribunal which sat on the 15 th and 21 st July 2008 had quashed the Decision of the Central Hearings Committee (CHC) made on the 23 rd June 2008 in respect of Mr. Paul Galvin

Whilst Mr. Galvin accepted that an incident happened on the 15 th June 2008 which warranted the commencement of disciplinary proceedings, the DRA Tribunal is of the view that procedural irregularities occurred at the CHC hearing on the 23 rd June 2008 which were in breach of his right to fair procedures and to a fair hearing.

The DRA Tribunal has directed as follows:

(a) that the matter be re-heard by a newly convened and differently constituted CHC as soon as possible; and

(b) that Mr. Galvin remains suspended in the interim period and is not eligible to play Gaelic games until the disciplinary process has been concluded.

No word of costs here ? When will that be decided ?

I'd imagine costs are reserved pending any further appeal Galvin may or may not make. Does the DRA make orders on costs public though?

Was just speaking to a solicitor there. You don't have to lodge a bond in the High Court before you bring a case unless your from outside the EC or you're a company with no money. Reckons that lawyers acting for players do it "no foal no fee". The loser pays the costs for both sides in most cases but if a player loses, he never ends up actually paying  as he won't have the money.

I heard 17k was the costs of one side (so the total costs would have been 34k) in a case last year. DRA act for free but the expenses are 1k.
