I don't know to be honest. There is a guy called "Homer" from Ballinagh and he posts fairly regular so he might fill you in on that. However, Ballinagh is like most clubs in Cavan, there would be loads of paid up members who might not even go to a match. Being a member doesn't automatically mean you are active within the club.

Hollow Man

This will only effect Ballinagh's Div One team and SFC team.

Their junior B's etc can play away. Also, Padraig Reilly, McDermott etc can still play for Cavan.

I think the county board are dead right. To ban one eegit (the lad who hit an umpire) obviously made zero difference because it wasn't a strong enough deterrent. Now you can be 100 per cent guaranteed that no Ballinagh "supporter" will try this again.

In a club, everyone is equal. One member assaulting an official, be it club chairman, supporter or full forward, deserves the same punishment. If he wasn't a member, that is different, but I would imaginbe that he was.

By the way, the Dublin stats man assaulted a player from another team (like the actual Dublin footballers have been doing for a few years!) and was punished the way a player would be with an individual ban.

Assaulting an official is totally different.

Each club has their own troubles and it is a very sad day for Ballinagh.  I remember an Ulster club championship semifianl when a referee was struck and the indivdual not the club was punished and shamed.  I would be severely concerned that in this case like the Galvin case this is being made up as we go along.
This is not condoning the behaviour in any way.

What happened during the match to get this spectator so annoyed as to hit the ref ?

Well it was a tight tense enough game but I think it would have been wrong to punish the club.  As it turned out the lad wasnt even a club member just an eejit who brought disrepute on his club.  I think he got 2 years.  The incident was captured on TV also.

Not quite anarchy but farce aplenty.

'The Cavan CCC previously dished out 196 weeks worth of suspensions, before deciding to ban the whole senior grade of Ballinagh GFC.Referee Gerry Sheridan, was physically attacked following a match he officiated between Ballinagh and Kilgarry, in a league match last Wednesday night.
A serving Garda, Sheridan had to use all his experience to calm frayed tempers in match, which saw him not only dismiss three players, but an umpire as well for directing too much verbal abuse at him. The umpire was a member of the Ballinagh club also.
Fans confronted Sheridan after the match, one of whom struck the match official three times in the face. The consequences were brought to bear on the entire club.
Three players were sent off in the course of the game and the current Cavan player Martin Reilly, who plays with Killygarry, suffered a broken nose.

During the game, Sheridan was verbally abused by one of his umpires, who was from the home club, and had to replace him. As Sheridan, a former Cavan footballer, was making his way off the pitch afterwards he was confronted by a number of Ballinagh supporters. One 'fan' is alleged to have struck him three times and as a result has picked up a 96-week ban.
The umpire was one of two Ballinagh supporters to be banned for eight weeks while a fourth supporter was hit with a six-month suspension. Sheridan provided a detailed report of the incident to Cavan CCC, who met on Friday night last for three hours before convening again the following day to complete their proposals.

Ballinagh were involved in a similar incident earlier in the year when an official was struck by a supporter when the side played Fingal Ravens in January. That matter was dealt with by Croke Park at the time'

Think this was carmen OM and it was brushed under the carpet..Killyman had their field closed for a year for a similar incident after a league game round the same time.

I have to say I think a closing of the pitch might have been a better option with longer suspensions for the people involved. At least that way the club is being punished but they will still have the opportunity to play football. That said I can understand their reasoning for banning the club as a deterrent to other incidents like this.

Wouldn't say unlucky..maybe naive to think we would get the same treatment as 'bigger' clubs  :'(
suppose we were only a junior/intermediate club at that stage  ;) ;D
